Terms of Service — Prism AAC

1. Acceptance

By using Prism AAC ("the App"), you agree to these terms. If you are a caregiver using the App on behalf of a minor, you accept these terms on their behalf.

2. Description

Prism AAC is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication application designed for children with motor impairments and complex communication needs. It is part of the Synalux platform.

3. Plans

Cloud plan terms

• The allowance resets on the first day of each calendar month at 00:00 UTC. Unused allowance does not carry over. There are no automatic overage charges: when the allowance is used up, cloud speech and cloud AI pause until the next reset, and cached playback, device voices and on-device AI keep working.
• Cached playback and device speech never use the allowance.
• The subscription is bought either in the iOS app (Apple in-app purchase, billed to your Apple Account) or on the web (Stripe). Both grant the same account; one active subscription per account. Apple purchases are managed and cancelled through Apple subscription settings; web purchases through Settings → Synalux Account → Manage subscription. Applicable taxes are handled by Apple or shown at Stripe checkout.
• Cancelling stops renewal at the end of the paid period; access continues until then. Refunds for Apple purchases follow Apple's policies; for web purchases contact support@synalux.ai.
• The plan is a usage allowance, not a promise of provider availability. If a cloud voice or AI provider is unavailable, the app falls back to device speech and on-device AI and the failed request is not counted.
• Prices are shown in US dollars; local currency and tax handling on iOS follow the App Store.

Access to communication is never restricted as a consequence of billing. Boards, saved phrases, cached speech, device voices, on-device AI and emergency communication remain available without an account, without a purchase, and after a subscription ends.

4. Medical disclaimer

Prism AAC is a communication tool, not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The AI features are assistive and should not replace professional clinical judgment. All behavior intervention plans, communication goals, and medical decisions should be made by qualified professionals (BCBA, SLP, physician).

5. Emergency features

The emergency alert system is a best-effort feature. It requires network connectivity (WiFi, cellular, or Bluetooth to a paired device). Do not rely on Prism AAC as your sole emergency communication method. Always have a backup plan (physical phone, medical alert device).

6. Content responsibility

Caregivers are responsible for the vocabulary, contacts, and content configured in the App. Synalux does not monitor or moderate user-generated content within individual accounts.

7. Intellectual property

• The App is licensed under AGPL-3.0 (see LICENSE)
• The picture symbols on built-in tiles were made for Prism AAC and are part of the App. See NOTICE
• User-generated content (custom phrases, recordings) remains the property of the user

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Synalux shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the App, including but not limited to communication failures, data loss, or inability to access emergency features.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated via the App or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
